Khaberni - An Egyptian businessman accused of assaulting a security guard inside a famous compound in Cairo, gave detailed confessions before the investigation authorities, revealing the reasons that led him to attack the victim.
The accused stated in his testimony that he was suffering from irritation due to not smoking, and was surprised by the security guard sitting on a chair, neglecting his duties, which led to a confrontation ending in the assault of the guard with beating and verbal abuse.
He added that they had previous disputes, and that he had previously requested the transfer of the guard from in front of his residence, but was surprised by his return, which led him to commit the assault.
For his part, the security guard gave his testimony to the detectives, confirming that he was slapped, kicked, and insulted with curses and verbal abuse while performing his duties inside the compound.
He explained that he was holding the Quran for reading during the attack, and that the accused accused him of neglecting his duties and breaking the chair he was sitting on, afterwards he went to file an official report at the Fifth Settlement police station accusing the businessman of assaulting him.
Conversely, the defendant's lawyer revealed new details, confirming that his client did not intend to assault, but felt provoked after the security guard said to him, "I'm back again," according to him.
He pointed out that his client faced extortion attempts, as the security guard demanded three million Egyptian pounds to drop the case.
The investigating authorities are currently listening to the suspect's and an eyewitness's statements, in preparation for taking the necessary legal actions, amidst media attention and widespread controversy among the compound residents and social media users about the incident.
The video caused widespread anger due to the brutal assault by one of the residents (a businessman), attacking a security worker with beating, kicking, and cursing, resulting in injuries and bruises that required hospital treatment.
The Ministry of Interior issued an official statement, explaining that the Fifth Settlement police department received a report from an administrative security guard at the residential complex (suffering from scratches and bruises scattered on the body) and another from the owners, complaining about one of the complex's residents for assaulting the first causing injuries, and also assaulting the second with cursing and verbal abuse while he intervened to reprimand him.
The statement added that after legal measures were regulated, the complained-against party "factory owner" was arrested, and upon confrontation, he confessed to committing the incident as referred to, and the public prosecution took over the investigation.
