Arrival of the destroyer USS Mahan to the Middle East with the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford

Khaberni -  The American destroyer "USS Mahan", accompanying the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford, has arrived in the Middle East.

The American destroyer "USS Mahan" (DDG-72), part of the "Gerald R. Ford" carrier strike group, sent signals at the Strait of Gibraltar and is now about to enter the Mediterranean Sea.

This is as reported by the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), which monitors the deployment of U.S. forces in the region.

It will thus join the massive force the United States has amassed in the Middle East, the largest since the Iraq War in 2003, at a significant cost.

Meanwhile, reports indicate a significant gap in negotiations between the United States and Iran, and President Donald Trump’s patience may be running thin.

In the current situation, any American attack on Iran - likely to be coordinated with Israel - may just be a matter of "when", as Trump himself tries to deliver contradictory statements that add to the ambiguity, and conflicting reports are published about its nature and expected scope.

Danny Citrinowicz, former head of the Iran branch in the research department of the intelligence agency and current researcher in the Iran program at the Institute for National Security Studies, claims that the likelihood of Iran launching a preemptive attack remains very slim.

He estimates, "Of course, the likelihood is not zero, but it is slim because the Iranians gain no strategic benefits from it. They would only take the risk if they launched an attack, inevitably bringing upon themselves a U.S. counterattack".
