Statue of Netanyahus Brother at an African Airport

Khaberni - In the heart of one of the African airports, the brother of the Israeli Prime Minister will be part of a scene recalling an incident that is 50 years old.

According to "Yedioth Ahronoth," Ugandan army commander Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced the inauguration of a statue of Yonatan Netanyahu at Entebbe Airport.

On his "X" account, the Ugandan army commander wrote, "In an effort to strengthen our close relations with Israel, we will soon unveil a statue of Yoni (Yonatan) Netanyahu at the place where he was killed at Entebbe Airport."

Yonatan Netanyahu was killed on the night of July 3-4, 1976, during Operation Entebbe, which was later named Operation Yonatan.

As the commander of the elite commando unit "Sayeret Matkal," Netanyahu's elder brother led the assault force that stormed the old passenger building in Uganda to rescue more than 100 Israeli and Jewish hostages taken by gunmen.

During that operation, Yonatan was hit by a bullet in exchanges of fire, and died from his wounds as the plane took off for Israel.

He was the only Israeli soldier killed in the rescue operation.
