Data Breach of 12 Million Bank Accounts in France

Khaberni - The national file of bank accounts in France suffered a significant security breach, as a hacker since the end of January 2026 managed to access the data of 1.2 million accounts, exploiting an employee's login credentials and the absence of a dual verification system to secure the accounts.
The French Ministry of Economy revealed that investigations conducted by the General Directorate of Public Finance proved the existence of "unlawful access to the national file of bank accounts", which contains all bank accounts opened at financial institutions in France.
The attacker managed to view personal information associated with the accounts, such as the account owner's name, address, and bank account data RIB and IBAN, and in some cases, their tax ID.
This data is extremely valuable for cyber fraud operations, like phishing attacks, while the General Directorate of Public Finance confirmed that the file does not contain account balances and does not allow any financial transactions.
