Khaberni - 12 Egyptian workers perished in a tragic and horrifying traffic accident today (Thursday) on the Port Said - Ismailia road, after a heavy transport vehicle (trailer) ran over a pick-up truck loaded with many workers who were on their way to work, in a scene described as «a journey of livelihood turned into a funeral» during the month of Ramadan.
According to security and medical sources, the death toll initially exceeded 10 people, then rose to 12, with two others sustaining injuries of varying severity. The injured were immediately transported to the June 30 Hospital in Ismailia to receive emergency treatment, while the bodies of the victims were distributed to three hospitals in Port Said to be placed in the morgues at the disposal of the investigating authorities.
The emergency operations room received a report of the accident, prompting police and ambulance forces to immediately move to the location. The security services formed an investigation team to examine the site of the accident and determine its precise causes, including the speed of the trailer, the condition of the road, and other possible factors such as fatigue or inattention.
The public prosecutor's office ordered the bodies to be held until the completion of legal procedures, preparing forensic reports, and afterwards authorizing the burial.
