Khaberni - The head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, stated on Thursday that no country can deprive Tehran of its right to enrich uranium, amidst the escalating tensions with Washington and the indirect negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement.
He mentioned that the Iranian nuclear program is progressing according to the rules of the International Atomic Energy Agency and no country can deprive Iran of the right to peacefully benefit from this technology.
Eslami reiterated his country’s commitment to its right to enrichment, after the United States warned Iran on Wednesday that it would be "wise" to strike a deal, while again hinting at the military option should diplomatic efforts fail.
On Tuesday, Tehran and Washington held a second round of talks mediated by Oman in Geneva, concluding with an agreement to continue discussions, noting that positions are still far apart.
Through the talks, Tehran sought to avoid any U.S. military action, while continuing to demand lifting the U.S. sanctions that are weighing down its economy.
Iran insists that discussions should be limited to the nuclear issue, which Western countries suspect is aimed at developing nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran consistently denies.
Washington, on its part, insisted on the necessity to discuss Iran's ballistic program and its support for armed groups in the region on the negotiating table.
On February 6, the United States and Tehran held a round of indirect talks in Oman, which was their first since the Iranian-Israeli war in June, in which the United States participated with strikes on nuclear facilities.
