Khaberni - Moscow stated that it is in the process of studying the invitation addressed to it to join the "Peace Council" formed by US President Donald Trump, with its first meeting scheduled to be held tomorrow, Thursday, in Washington.
The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced on Wednesday at a press conference that "Russia's position on the invitation to join the council is under study."
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that his country is ready to contribute one billion dollars from its previously frozen assets to join the membership of the "Peace Council".
Washington has extended invitations to leaders of about 50 countries to participate in the "Peace Council" regarding Gaza. The list of invitees includes countries such as Australia, Japan, Russia, Belarus, and Turkey.
Reservations About the Council
The European Commission announced last Monday that it would participate in the "Peace Council" as an observer without formally joining the council's membership due to its reservations, particularly regarding "the scope of application", "governance", and "alignment with the United Nations Charter".
On January 15, Trump announced the establishment of the "Peace Council", which is associated with a plan he proposed for the Gaza Strip, and the United Nations Security Council welcomed the establishment of this council in its resolution number 2803 issued in November 2025.
The charter describes the council as a permanent international organization aimed at promoting peace and good governance in conflict areas, with extensive powers for Trump, including veto power and the appointment of members, which led observers to describe it as a maneuver to bypass the United Nations.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has requested that countries wishing to join the council contribute one billion dollars.
