A Statistical Platform Predicts the Qualifiers to the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League

Khaberni - The predictions of the "Football Meets Data" statistical platform, after the end of the first leg matches in the qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League, indicate an advantage for Paris Saint-Germain over Monaco.

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Monaco with a score of 3-2 at the Stade Louis II, despite trailing 2-0 at the start of the match. Monaco exhibited significant effectiveness despite limited possession, scoring two goals through Volaren Balogun, while Vitinha missed a penalty for Paris Saint-Germain, and Ousmane Dembele was forced to leave the field injured before half an hour of play.

Paris Saint-Germain ultimately succeeded in reversing the score, supported by the entry of Desire Doue and benefiting from numerical superiority for most of the second half following the red card dismissal of Alexander Golovin. The second leg will take place on 25 February at the Parc des Princes stadium.

According to the "Football Meets Data" platform, Paris Saint-Germain now has a 96% chance of qualifying, an increase of 8% after the first leg match, while Monaco's chances are limited to only 4%. The winner of this purely French matchup will face either Barcelona or Chelsea in the round of sixteen.

Although the numbers heavily favor Paris Saint-Germain, surprises are still possible, as seen previously in the tournament when the probability of Olympique Marseille being eliminated was only 2.05% before the last round of the league phase.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid defeated Benfica 1-0 thanks to a goal from Vinicius, and now has a 90% chance of qualifying. The second leg at Santiago Bernabeu is expected to be charged after Vinicius accused Gianluca Prestiani of racism. Despite suffering a 5-2 defeat against Galatasaray, Juventus has a 14% chance to reverse the result at their home stadium, the highest probability among teams that faced heavy defeats. Meanwhile, Atalanta, who lost 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund, has a 13% chance to qualify in the second leg match that will be held on their ground.
