The German President learns about Jordans experience in light of the synchrotron

Khaberni - The German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited today, Wednesday, the International Centre for Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications “SESAME”, and reviewed its operations and its role in supporting scientific research and enabling researchers from various countries in the region and the world.
The German President listened to a briefing about the facilities of the center, its research lines, and the advanced technologies it provides to scientists, in addition to its contribution to enhancing regional and international scientific cooperation, and establishing Jordan's position as an advanced scientific hub in the fields of physics and applied sciences.
The General Director of the center, Dr. Khaled Touqan, stated that “SESAME” is a sophisticated and unique scientific facility at the Arab and Islamic world level, and plays a pivotal role as a regional center for scientific research, and has begun to establish its presence on the global scientific map through attracting advanced research projects and wide international partnerships.
He mentioned that Germany has become the first European country to join the center as an associate member, in a step that reflects the increasing international confidence in the scientific and technical level achieved by “SESAME”, pointing out that Germany has contributed since the founding stages in supporting the infrastructure of the center, by providing it with the electronic source “microtron” and the first phase accelerator “booster”.
He added that German scientists have played a prominent role over the past 15 years in establishing new research lines, including the soft X-ray beamline, alongside providing technical support and training for the staff, and participating in the implementation of joint scientific research.
He explained that the visit of the German President aimed to learn about the scientific and technical achievements realized, and to follow up on his country's contribution to the development of the center, in addition to discussing prospects for expanding cooperation between German scientists and their counterparts in Jordan and the region.
“SESAME” currently hosts about 1100 research projects from 48 countries, including member and partner countries, reflecting its status as an advanced research facility whose role extends not only at the regional level but also to the international scientific arena.
