Afghanistan Releases 3 Pakistanis Through Saudi Mediation

Khaberni - The authorities in Afghanistan announced today, Tuesday, the release of three Pakistanis who were detained during the clashes that erupted with Pakistan in October last year, mediated through the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The official spokesman for the Afghan government, Zabihullah Mujahid, stated that the release came "out of Afghanistan's policy to establish positive relations with all countries" and on the occasion of the upcoming month of Ramadan.

He added that the release was in response to a Saudi request, and in appreciation of a visiting Saudi negotiation delegation that arrived in Kabul on Monday, noting that the three detainees were handed over to the Saudi delegation following their release.

Mujahid clarified that the detainees were captured during the clashes that occurred between the two sides on October 12, 2025, before their release was carried out as part of the Saudi mediation efforts.

The release of the soldiers comes after months of the worst cross-border clashes since the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in 2021.

In the past October, Saudi Arabia, along with Qatar and Turkey, participated in diplomatic mediation that paved the way for dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

This was followed by the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Doha with Qatari-Turkish efforts, where the kingdom welcomed the agreement and praised the role of the mediators.

The agreement stipulates the establishment of mechanisms to reinforce peace and stability between the two countries, with follow-up meetings to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire and reliable verification of its implementation.
