The new design represents a departure from the current white and blue color scheme dating back to the presidency of John Kennedy, reviving elements from a previous proposal by President Donald Trump which included the colors red, white, and blue, but was canceled in 2022 after the Air Force decided that the darker colors might cause temperature-related issues.
