Khaberni - The Greater Amman Municipality has commenced the maintenance of several tunnels and bridges at various locations across 24 traffic intersections distributed along several main axes within the capital's limits, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of the infrastructure, improve traffic safety, and enhance the urban landscape of the city.
The Municipality explained that the maintenance work is being executed under a dedicated tender, with the basic contract valued at (349,200) Jordanian Dinars, in addition to a contingency item worth (20,000) Dinars. The project duration extends over 180 calendar days.
The project includes comprehensive structural and preventive maintenance works, involving the maintenance of walls and ceilings of tunnels and bridges, replacing damaged railings, compensating for lost concrete caps, and maintaining expansion joints, alongside cleaning operations using sand and water blasting, and painting of concrete and metal surfaces according to the best practices and engineering specifications, which ensure extending the life expectancy of the assets and improving the urban appearance of the intersections.
The work sites are spread across main axes in Amman, including: Army Street, Al-Madina Al-Munawara Street, Jordan Street, the Ring Road, Jerusalem Street, Wasfi al-Tal Street, King Abdullah II Street, in addition to various locations that include vital tunnels and bridges experiencing high traffic density.
The Municipality confirmed that the project aligns with its strategic objective of establishing a modern, organized, and safe road system, and its strategic goal to improve and develop the road network, infrastructure, and intersections, and to sustain them; thus enhancing public safety and improving the road user experience.
It also clarified that additional works will be carried out as needed within the allocations of the contingency item, according to safety priorities and the traffic reality requirements during the implementation period.
