Sony Develops Technology to Identify Original Music in AI Songs

Khaberni - Sony has developed a technology capable of identifying the original music used in pieces created by artificial intelligence, enabling songwriters to receive compensation from AI developers when their music is used.

Sony's technology analyzes the songs of musicians whose work was used to train AI systems to generate music.

This technology also determines the percentage contribution of each original work to the AI piece, for example, "30% of the music used is from The Beatles and 10% from Queen," according to a report by the Nikkei Asia newspaper specializing in economic affairs.

If the AI developer agrees to cooperate in the analysis, Sony will obtain the data through connection to the developer's base model system. When cooperation is not possible, the technology estimates the original work by comparing the AI-generated music with the already existing music.

Sony believes that this technology will help establish a system that distributes the revenue of AI-generated music to the original songwriters based on their contributions.

The boom in artificial intelligence has led to numerous issues where AI technology developers are accused of using copyright-protected music, video clips, and writings without permission to train their systems.

In the music industry, AI-generated songs that use the voices of famous singers have been circulated online.

This technology, developed by Sony AI, part of Sony's Research and Development group, has been accepted in a paper at an international conference. The department has also developed a method to prevent AI from imitating the style of animated drawings and characters, such as those from Studio Ghibli, or simply generating images it has learned.

This technology can also be applied in other areas such as video clips, games, and characters. Sony has not yet specified when the system will start being used practically.

Sony expects AI development companies to integrate this technology into their models, and content companies to use it in negotiating licenses.
