Khaberni - German police found a mummified body of an elderly woman after receiving a report from a mayor who became worried following his failed repeated attempts to communicate with her, while police suspect her daughter of hiding her death to receive her pension, according to the newspaper "Bild".
The mayor of Ruhmannsfelden in the Bavaria region, Werner Troiber, has been trying every year for the past eight years to visit Sophie B., born in 1922, to honor her long life. Every time, he found the door closed or her daughter, Christa B., would make up an excuse for not receiving him, according to "Bild".
On December 30, 2025, he finally decided to contact the public prosecutor when he no longer found the daughter's excuses, who was 82 years old, convincing. She claimed that her mother had died two years earlier in Czechia.
The mayor mentioned through the newspaper "Bild" that the situation seemed "suspicious" to him, and the police finally intervened on February 5, and found a "mummified body" in the home of Sophie and Christa B., according to a statement issued by the Bavarian police dated February 12.
The autopsy could not determine the cause of death or its date, but it dates back several years, according to the same source, which also mentioned that there are no signs of a murder. However, an investigation for fraud was opened, as it is suspected that the deceased's daughter continued to collect her mother’s pension, according to the police.
According to the newspaper "Bild", Sophie B.'s health insurance card had not been used for more than ten years, but her retirement pension, which amounts to 1500 euros, continued to be paid, and according to the Bavarian police, the suspect Christa B. had herself entered a specialized medical clinic.
