Khaberni - The Cabinet decided in its session held on Tuesday, chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, to approve the grounds for a system project to raise traffic safety standards and encouraging incentives for drivers for the year 2026, and referred it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to proceed in the approval procedures as per regulations.
The system project grants drivers continuous incentives and discounts if they do not commit any violations, or if they pay the fines early, aiming to encourage compliance with traffic laws which will contribute to improving safety on the roads and reducing accidents.
According to the system project, a driver who goes a full year without committing any violation will be granted a 25% discount on the annual due acquisition fee.
Also, anyone who commits a traffic violation will be granted a 30% discount on the fine if it is paid within 30 days from the date of the violation, and a 20% discount if paid within 90 days from the date of the violation.
The system project presents an opportunity for drivers to reduce the accumulation of fines on them and facilitates the timely licensing of their vehicles.
The system project excludes serious violations from the discount; due to their severity, such as: reckless driving, running red lights, causing traffic accidents, fleeing the scene of the accident, tampering with vehicle number plates, and any violation that results in causing death or permanent disability to a person.
Relatedly, the Cabinet has decided to grant discounts on due traffic fines for violations committed before the date of February 17, 2026.
According to the decision, anyone who commits a traffic violation will be granted a 30% discount on the total value of the fines, provided they are paid within 60 days; the aim is to encourage drivers to license their vehicles within the legal period.
