Khaberni - Researchers from the University of Freiburg in Germany and the University of Geneva in Switzerland have found that a nap not exceeding 45 minutes in the afternoon helps improve learning abilities.
The study, published in the NeuroImage journal specializing in neurology, showed that a short sleep resets the neural connections between brain cells, enhancing its ability to store new information, without the need for long sleep at night.
The study further explained that the brain strengthens connections among its cells while processing daily thoughts and experiences. However, the accumulation of information reduces its flexibility and weakens the brain's ability to absorb new experiences. A short midday nap helps the brain restore its activity and readiness to learn again.
According to the German agency, researcher Christoph Nissen noted that "even short periods of sleep help enhance the brain's ability to absorb new information."
In turn, Kai Spiegelhalder, head of sleep research in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Freiburg, stated that "a short nap contributes to mental recovery, makes thinking clearer, and increases the ability to focus and work efficiently."
