Khaberni - Regulatory authorities in Irbid, on Tuesday, destroyed 7 tons of potatoes inside the central market for vegetables and fruits, after they were seized during inspection rounds conducted by the control staff according to the spokesperson for the Greater Irbid Municipality, Gaith Al-Tal.
Al-Tal stated to "Al-Mamlaka" that the decision to destroy the potatoes came after it was proven that the quantity was unfit for human consumption due to signs of spoilage, necessitating immediate actions to protect public health.
Al-Tal explained that the quantity was transported to the municipality's composting station to be properly disposed of and re-used for the purpose of converting it into organic compost, in accordance with approved environmental procedures.
He clarified that the seized quantity was intended for distribution in the local markets, but sensory examinations revealed it did not meet health requirements, affirming that the necessary legal measures were taken against the violators.
Al-Tal mentioned that the monitoring teams are intensifying their daily tours of the central market and other markets of the city, especially with the increased demand for buying food products during the current period, to ensure food safety and protect public health.
