Computer Simulation Shows Crescent Moon Not Visible on Tuesday

Khaberni  - A computer astronomical simulation conducted in Amman indicates that the moon's illumination and luminous thickness are close to zero at sunset, and its angular elongation is close to the sun. The moon remains visible for only about three minutes after sunset, with part of the moon's disk being below the horizon at sunset. Therefore, anyone claiming to see the crescent on Tuesday after sunset must show a picture and evidence.

The president of the Jordanian Astronomical Society, Ammar Al-Sakaji, stated that all astronomical data confirm that seeing the crescent of Ramadan on the evening of Tuesday, February 17, is "impossible" whether with the naked eye, through a telescope, or using astronomical imaging techniques, in Jordan and both nearby and distant regions.

The calculations indicate that the angular elongation between the moon and the sun will be approximately one degree, or less in some areas, which is a very low value making the moon very close to the sun visually and completely engulfed in its intense glare, according to Al-Sakaji.

He noted that attempting to search for the moon in such conditions, especially by direct viewing through a telescope eyepiece or using any traditional optical magnification device, could pose a real danger to eye safety.
