Decrease in Olive Oil Production in Jordan by 34 Below the Average

Khaberni - The Department of Statistics issued on Tuesday the results of the olive oil mills survey in Jordan for the 2025 season.

The results indicated that the total quantity of olive oil produced this season amounted to 16,342 tons, and compared to the average annual production during the years (2012-2024), which was 24,923 tons, the results showed a decrease of 34.4% from the average, and a decrease of 54.4% from the previous season which reached 35,828 tons.

The results also indicated that the quantity of olive fruits used in pressing decreased by approximately the same rate, where the quantity of fruits reached 84,154 tons in the current season compared to 184,903 tons last season and 127,746 tons as an average during the same period.

Regarding the geographical distribution of mills, the results pointed out that the production of olive oil mills in Irbid province ranked first with a production of 5.5 thousand tons, followed by mills in Ajloun province with a production quantity of 3.3 thousand tons, whereas the mills in Aqaba province were the least in terms of the quantity of olive oil produced, amounting to only 52 tons.

When reviewing the results of the olive oil mills survey since the start of this survey in 2008, we find that there is variability in the quantities of olives used in pressing and the quantities of olive oil produced. This is due to the phenomenon of load biennial bearing and the variability of rainfall amounts. It is apparent that the production quantity this season is the lowest since the season of 2009, whether in terms of quantities of olives used in pressing or amounts of olive oil produced.

It is worth noting that the total number of olive oil mills in Jordan reached 153 mills in 2025, with 149 of them being operational, and the Department of Statistics collects data from these mills weekly in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture using a comprehensive survey method.
