Consumer Protection Warns Against Consuming Ramadan Juices Sold on the Streets

Khaberni - The National Association for Consumer Protection has warned citizens against purchasing and consuming Ramadan juices sold on street sidewalks, as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.

The Association stated in a declaration on Tuesday that these products are manufactured in places and by methods that lack health standards and public safety criteria, which may endanger consumers' lives. The statement also noted that regulatory authorities have destroyed large quantities of these products in the recent past.

The Association called on regulatory bodies in various provinces of the kingdom to intensify campaigns and field visits to curb the spread of this negative phenomenon that troubles both citizens and official entities alike, and not to be lenient with any party that jeopardizes the health and safety of citizens.

The Association also appealed to housewives to buy raw materials for these juices from reputable stores and groceries and to prepare them at home for benefits related to ensuring quality and health safety for the family, in addition to saving part of the financial expenses compared to buying them ready-made from street vendors or stalls that display them under the sun, which may expose them to contamination.

The Association expressed its appreciation for the efforts made by the General Institution for Food and Drug in reducing this phenomenon through intensified inspection campaigns on commercial shops, factories, and public places, and verifying the suitability of food items offered in the markets, and destroying goods unfit for human consumption.
