Khaberni - The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abu Al-Samn, on Monday, examined strategic road projects in the governorates of Irbid and Ajloun, starting the field tour in the governorate of Ajloun to follow up on the final touches of the maintenance and expansion project of the Kufranja-Wadi Al-Tawaheen road.
The minister reviewed the progress of work on the road, which has reached a 95% completion rate with an estimated cost of 1.2 million dinars. The tour included inspecting the expansion works, earthworks, and laying of new asphalt layers, as well as checking the readiness of traffic safety elements including ground paints, reflectors, metal barriers, protective nets, and stone chains "gabions."
He emphasized the importance of this road in connecting the city of Ajloun with the Kufranja area and reaching the Jordan Valley, and its vital role in enhancing the tourism and agricultural movements in the region, noting that the work is nearing completion.
During the tour, the minister announced the ministry's intention to soon start implementing the second phase of the project, which will cover an approximate length of 3 km. This phase will include a comprehensive package of works including expanding the existing road through earthworks, rock cuts, and base laying, removing the current asphalt mixture, and executing binder and surface basalt asphalt layers. It also includes treatment of potholes and subsidence, installation of protective mesh for rock slopes, "gabion" protections works, lining of side ditches, and installing rainwater drainage culverts. Additionally, this phase will cover the complete lighting of the Kufranja-Wadi Al-Tawaheen road and equipping it with all traffic safety elements, including hot paint, reflectors, signs, and metal and concrete barriers.
Abu Al-Samn then moved to the governorate of Irbid to inspect the progress of work on the Irbid Circular Road project, specifically the first part of the third phase which has begun its earthworks covering a length of approximately 3.6 km.
The minister followed up on the field on the earthworks related to the ramps at the Amman intersection, the construction of the overpass for the intersection on the Kotam road, as well as the construction of the local road length of 520 meters, which includes base laying and execution requirements, where the completion rate in this strategic project reached 75%.
During his tour, Abu Al-Samn emphasized that completing this vital traffic artery is a national priority for connecting the north of the kingdom with its center and south, and for alleviating traffic congestions within the city of Irbid, serving the commercial and agricultural movement and integrating the rural economy into the comprehensive developmental landscape of the kingdom.
