Khaberni - A quiet night in a village in Jharkhand, India, turned into a horrific disaster, after a herd of angry elephants stormed the homes while the residents were sleeping, resulting in the death of six people, the youngest being a three-month-old infant.
Vikas Kumar Ojha, the forest official in East Hazaribagh, confirmed that among the deceased were four members of one family, while another child was seriously injured and was taken to Sedhar Hospital in Hazaribagh for treatment, according to the British newspaper "The Sun".
Sudden intrusion
Village residents said that the elephants arrived suddenly at midnight, breaking down homes and destroying everything in their path, describing the scene as, "They came without warning and destroyed everything," noting the state of terror that gripped the village.
Witnesses mentioned that the attack left behind widespread destruction, while an elderly woman was the sole survivor from her family.
Ojha warned the residents of Gondwar village not to approach the forested areas, indicating that monitoring teams were tracking the herd and issuing continuous alerts to the affected villages, while authorities confirmed that the affected families would receive compensations in accordance with government laws. Residents demanded more stringent preventive measures to prevent further deaths.
