America Discovery of a Steamship Wreck Missing for 60 Years

Khaberni - Researchers have found the wreck of a luxury steamship that sank in a hurricane in Lake Michigan in the late 19th century, completing a search that began about 60 years ago.

The group "Shipwreck World," which works to locate shipwrecks around the world, announced on Friday that a team led by shipwreck hunter Paul A. Ehorn found the wreck of the "Lac La Belle" 32 miles off the coast between Racine and Kenosha, Wisconsin. Ehorn, aged 80, has been searching for shipwrecks since he was 15 years old, mentioned that he has been attempting to locate "Lac La Belle" since 1965.

Ehorn utilized a guide from fellow researcher and author Ross Richardson in 2022 to narrow down his search and found the ship using a side-scan sonar after spending only two hours on the lake.

He said, "It's like a game, like solving puzzles. Sometimes, you miss many pieces to assemble the pieces correctly, but this game succeeded and we found it immediately," and noted that the discovery made him "extremely happy," and Ehorn declined to discuss the guide that led to the discovery.
