Khaberni - Tkiyet Um Ali announced the implementation of a multi-sector humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip worth 950,000 Dinars, which includes the establishment and rehabilitation of five shelter units for those who lost their homes during the war. Each unit includes about 200 tents, totaling 1,000 tents, financed locally from funds donated by Jordanian donors allocated for Gaza, in cooperation and partnership with partner associations within the Strip, and coordinated with the Hashemite Charity Organization.
According to the press release issued by the Tkiyet today, the shelter units comprise the establishment and rehabilitation of 40 sanitary units (bathrooms) and the construction and equipping of 9 fully equipped educational classrooms.
Tkiyet Um Ali stated that this intervention comes in response to the urgent needs on the ground, at a time when the Gaza Strip is experiencing a real crisis related to providing shelter spaces for the displaced and those affected by the war. A special unit has been established that creates a safe space for widowed women and families of orphans. The project included replacing tents for families in some cases, and rehabilitating the available tents in other cases, as an immediate solution to alleviate the suffering of the affected families.
Samer Balqar, the General Director of Tkiyet Um Ali, said, "The first phase of equipping these units has been completed through the establishment of 250 residential tents in areas of western Gaza, the port area, and eastern Gaza. This includes a productive kitchen and the construction of a unit containing 3 classroom spaces", indicating that "the project will complete its five units before the middle of the holy month of Ramadan".
Tkiyet Um Ali has focused in the recent period on providing food, blankets, and meats through land convoys and air drops. The shelter units project represents a shift towards the initial recovery phase, within a flexible approach to humanitarian response that considers the needs and priorities of families."
Balqar explained that the shelter units will include productive kitchens that will operate during Ramadan to prepare breakfast meals for the fasting at a rate of 5,000 breakfast meals daily. Concurrently, another 5,000 daily breakfast meals will be served at the Tkiyet’s station in Amman and continue distributing 20,000 monthly food parcels throughout all provinces of the kingdom, in addition to distributing about 200,000 breakfast meals across the provinces.
Continuing its role locally alongside its ongoing support for food security after Ramadan, these kitchens will also provide employment opportunities for the people of Gaza, as part of supporting livelihoods for families who have lost their income sources due to displacement and widespread destruction.
As part of Tkiyet Um Ali’s initiative, fully equipped classroom spaces were built, allowing the children residing in these units to continue their education, alongside providing basic services that cater to their educational needs and offering psychological and social support services to students enrolled in these educational units, in an attempt to mitigate the long-term impact of the crisis on children's rights to education and protection. He also noted that "in the subsequent stage, Tkiyet Um Ali will implement a school nutrition program similar to the program it implements in Jordan by providing 100,000 date bars to students in Jordan within the school nutrition program.
This response is implemented in partnership with local institutions in Gaza, ensuring access to the most vulnerable groups, especially children, and the design of interventions is based on continuous field assessments of needs, reflecting the commitment of Tkiyet Um Ali to a humanitarian approach that places human dignity and rights at the heart of relief work.
