How does the marble of the Mataf remain cool during daytime in the Grand Mosque

Khaberni - As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the Saudi Press Agency "SPA" clarified the secret behind the coolness of the Mataf marble in the Grand Mosque during daytime, as "the guests of Rahman" carry out their religious duties.
According to "SPA", the marble of the Mataf in the Grand Mosque maintains its coolness during daylight hours despite direct exposure to sunlight; this is due to an engineering system that combines selecting a type of marble with physical properties that reflect heat, and a structural design that reduces and speeds up the dissipation of heat transfer; thus providing a comfortable and safe environment for the circumambulators.

"SPA" emphasized that the marble used is natural and high-quality, sourced from cool mountainous regions, characterized by a low heat absorption coefficient and its ability to reflect sunlight instead of storing it. Its light color helps reduce thermal radiation compared to darker materials; thus helping to keep its surface temperature moderate even during peak times.

It also pointed out that the thickness of the slabs and the methods of fixing them above insulating layers enhance the presence of gaps that allow air passage, increasing the efficiency of insulation and cooling. Additionally, the large area of the Mataf, the movement of the circumambulators, and the constant flow of air help to lower the thermal sensation.

The agency explained that these solutions represent the integration between engineering and natural materials to serve the guests of Rahman and enhance comfort levels within the Grand Mosque.
