Indonesia Prepares to Deploy 8000 Troops in Gaza

Khaberni -  The Indonesian Armed Forces announced on Sunday that up to 8,000 troops would be ready by the end of June for a possible deployment in Gaza, as part of a humanitarian and peacekeeping mission, in the first official commitment to a core component of the reconstruction plan proposed by US President Donald Trump after the war.

Indonesian military spokesperson, Brigadier General Doni Bramono, stated that the military has prepared a brigade of 8,000 personnel, in accordance with the decisions of the February 12 meeting regarding the mission, adding: "We are ready in principle to deploy anywhere, and our forces can be sent immediately after official government approval."

According to the planned schedule, the soldiers will undergo health screenings and complete administrative paperwork throughout February, followed by a review of troop readiness at the end of the month.

Bramono also mentioned that 1,000 soldiers would be ready for deployment as a preliminary team by April 2026, with the rest being ready by June. He emphasized that readiness does not mean the soldiers will actually leave, as deployment requires a political decision and depends on international mechanisms.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Jakarta's role in Gaza would be purely humanitarian, focusing on civilian protection, medical services, and reconstruction, without participating in any combat operations or direct confrontations with armed groups.

Indonesia will be the first country to officially commit troops to the security mission, established by US President Trump's Peace Council initiative in Gaza.

It is noted that Indonesia, the largest Muslim-majority country in the world, does not maintain official diplomatic relations with Israel, and has long supported a two-state solution, as well as participating in providing humanitarian aid to Gaza, including funding for a hospital.

It is noted that Indonesia has extensive experience in peacekeeping operations, being among the top 10 contributing countries to United Nations missions, including in Lebanon.
