Khaberni - The Libyan city of Derna witnessed a tragic incident with the death of a child just hours after his birth.
The Libyan authorities confirmed in a statement by the Criminal Investigation Department's Derna branch on "Facebook" that the mother placed her child in a bag and transported him to a garbage dump in the 400 neighborhood, where the child was attacked by stray dogs in front of the mother’s eyes, leading to his death before any help could arrive.
In her confessions, the mother, who was arrested, said that the reason for her actions was due to her illegitimate pregnancy, which the father of the child did not acknowledge.
She added that she gave birth to her child at her home on the morning of the incident, and when she placed him in the bag near the dogs, she noticed them gnashing the infant's body, confirming that she witnessed the incident with her own eyes without feeling any remorse.
On his part, the father of the child confessed to the security authorities that he caused the mother's pregnancy in an illegitimate way; this indicates his involvement in an additional crime prior to the incident of the infant’s death.
The investigations revealed that family disputes were behind this tragic incident, and the mother and father of the child were referred to the public prosecutor for investigation.
