Khaberni - Turkish police are intensifying their efforts to uncover the circumstances of the disappearance of $30 million within minutes, after unknown individuals took the amount from two cars inside a residential complex in Bakırköy area, Istanbul, in one of the largest cash thefts in Turkey.
According to investigations, it was revealed that the funds belong to Bilal Dormaz, the owner of a famous exchange company, who in turn informed the police that the money was inside bags in the trunk of two cars parked in the complex's garage for weeks.
The details of the incident indicate that 4 suspects entered the complex on the evening of February 11 with a car bearing forged plates, before they directly headed to the garage, broke the car windows and trunks, and then fled with ten bags weighing about 300 kilograms of cash, all within about 15 minutes.
Dormaz later discovered the theft when he went to the garage at night, finding signs of the break-in and the disappearance of the bags. He immediately informed the police who began operations of searching and analyzing surveillance cameras to track down the culprits.
During the investigations, Dormaz stated in his testimony that the nature of his work in the exchange business makes banking transactions exhausting, adding that the funds were not needed during the past months, so he kept them inside the vehicles.
The authorities announced the arrest of seven suspects connected to the case in simultaneous operations conducted in Istanbul, Antalya, and Kocaeli, while investigations continue to uncover the rest of the involved parties and determine the final path of the stolen money.
