Israel ranks first in the air pollution index

Khaberni - Tel Aviv and Jerusalem top the list of the most air-polluted cities, according to the air quality index issued today, Saturday. This index measures the current or expected level of air pollution.

The index analyzes various data and studies air pollutants, including surface level ozone, inhalable particles, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide. The reason for the high pollution levels in Israel is attributed to the dust and sand accumulating in the air.

According to the index, which is updated instantly, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem top the list of most polluted cities, with the air quality index in Tel Aviv exceeding 2000. For comparison, Lahore in Pakistan ranks third with an index of 243.

According to the air quality index issued by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the air quality in many areas of Israel reaches about -400, which is considered very low.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Israeli Ministry of Health recommend that vulnerable groups, including those with heart and lung conditions, the elderly, children, and pregnant women, avoid strenuous physical activities outdoors. The general public is also advised to reduce strenuous physical activities outdoors.

The dust levels peaked today, reaching 50 times the normal rate. Over the next few hours, as the sand and fog move northeast, we will witness a slight improvement in air quality. The fog will settle down overnight and tomorrow.
