AlAzhar Sheikh Warns Against Denying Prophetic Tradition Posts

Khaberni - Al-Azhar warned, on Thursday, of video clips and widely circulated posts that advocate “relying solely on the Holy Quran as the only source of Islamic legislation, and completely or partially denying the Prophetic Traditions.”

In a post on Al-Azhar’s account on platform "X": “Al-Azhar has noticed some people promoting ideas through video clips and posts that advocate relying solely on the Holy Quran as the only source of Islamic legislation, completely or partially denying the Prophetic Traditions, calling for a complete break with the Islamic heritage, besides attacking leading imams, and making people doubt their faith; such as the five pillars of Islam, the prohibition of alcohol, the obligatory nature of hijab, under what is called contemporary readings of texts.”

It continued: “Al-Azhar asserts that the purified Prophetic Traditions are the second source of Islamic legislation, and not merely a historical heritage as these people claim. Denying the Prophetic Traditions is but a malicious attempt to demolish the system of Islamic jurisprudence fundamentals, since the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Traditions both complement each other in legislation, starting from a precise system of knowledge governance that regulated the narration of traditions and interpretation of texts, as the traditions clarify and detail what is mentioned in the Quran, and establish rulings on matters the Quran does not specify.”

It added: “This intellectual approach is based on selective text interpretation and readings that lack the simplest fundamentals of disciplined argumentation, with the intent to create confusion among Muslims. It is a method that is not in line with what has been agreed upon by the consensus of the nation through its successive centuries, calling upon various media outlets to ensure accuracy and objectivity in presenting or displaying religious issues, consider people's conditions and their emotions, and not to provide platforms for presenting deviant opinions; thus, preserving community awareness and maintaining its intellectual and religious stability.”

In this context, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Ahmed El-Tayeb, directed specialists in various Al-Azhar bodies to produce detailed scientific responses to the raised doubts, and present them through young Azhar scholars in a rigorous scientific manner and accessible language suitable for various segments of the public, especially the youth, contributing to reinforcing the correct understanding of the religion.
