New controversy surrounds Mahmoud Hegazy and his family after assault allegations

Khaberni - The controversy surrounding the Egyptian artist Mahmoud Hegazy and his wife has resurfaced after his first comment following his release in the case where he was accused of assaulting a foreign woman inside a famous hotel in Cairo.

Hegazy confirmed in a video posted on his official Facebook account that the allegations against him were fabricated, and that what is happening is a campaign to tarnish his image before the public, noting that his wife was trying to flee with their one and a half year old son out of Egypt.

Hegazy said, "There is wisdom in what is happening to me only God knows," assuring his confidence in proving his innocence of the charges attributed to him.

He added that he would not allow his wife to take their son out of the country after a court ruling prevented him from traveling, noting that he has not seen his child since his birth until now, despite being in Egypt for the past five months.

Hegazy clarified that he will reveal more details about his relationship with his wife in the coming days, but he preferred not to delve into them in order to protect his son.

On her part, his wife Rana Tareq broke her silence confirming that she does not oppose lifting the travel ban on her son, and that Hegazy did not bear any expenses during the past five months, noting that she alone had spent on their child.

She added that she came to Egypt by her own will and brought her son to enable his father to see him, bearing all the costs, noting that Hegazy assaulted her physically after she confronted him about his relationships with other women and her request for separation, which led to her injury, confirming that she recently obtained a court decree for child support with retrospective effect for a year.

In another development, the foreign woman who was assaulted inside the hotel confirmed that smear campaigns continue against her since the official complaint was filed against Hegazy, noting that she was offered two million Egyptian pounds to drop the case in front of witnesses, but she refused, emphasizing the ongoing threats to her and her family members.
