Khaberni - Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin, president of the European Football Association (UEFA), stated that football is the biggest winner from the agreement with Spanish Real Madrid, which ended the Super League project.
The Spanish club and UEFA announced on Wednesday the resolution of their disputes, nearly five years after the independent Super League project was introduced, with Real Madrid and its president Florentino Perez being among its most prominent supporters.
While the 'big six' English clubs quickly withdrew under fan and government pressure, Real Madrid and its traditional rival Barcelona continued their support for the project, with the royal club even filing a lawsuit against UEFA for attempting to block the tournament's launch.
Barcelona officially announced its withdrawal at the end of last week, and news of the agreement with Real Madrid put an end to the project forever.
Ceferin said at the UEFA general assembly meeting in the Belgian capital Brussels on Thursday: I am very happy that Real Madrid and Barcelona are rejoining the European Football Association family once again. Honestly, we were all tired of these conflicts.
Ceferin added in his statements: We had some disagreements with the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, but let me affirm that we never lost respect - for ourselves, for each other, and we never lost our love for the game.
He continued: I want to reaffirm that the only winner in this situation is football, and no one else.
