Khaberni - The head of the Technical Investigation Department in the Cybercrime Unit, Major Musab Rahahleh, warned of the growing activity of fake trading platforms that promote quick profits and working from home, confirming that they are behind cases of electronic fraud that caused financial losses to citizens.
Rahahleh said on Thursday that electronic fraud cases are not new, but the methods of fraud and cybercrime evolve and change from time to time, pointing out the emergence of fake trading platforms that claim to provide job opportunities from home and achieve high profits within a short period.
He explained that the Cybercrime Unit follows and deals with many cases of fraud and imaginary trading through social media platforms, noting that most of these platforms operate from outside of Jordan, specifically from countries in East Asia.
Rahahleh clarified that the unit coordinates with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to track down those responsible for these platforms in their countries, according to adopted protocols and legal procedures.
He mentioned that a number of citizens had suffered financial losses and lost their accounts on social media as a result of falling victim to electronic fraud operations.
Rahahleh called on citizens not to deal with any untrusted links or non-licensed platforms, and to verify the legality and credibility of any platform through official competent authorities before investing or transferring money, stressing that promises of quick wealth through social media are often an indicator of fraud.
