Jordanian Hotels Seek to Reduce Water Use in Cooperation with the Embassy

Khaberni - The Jordanian Hotels Association, in cooperation with the Water Conservation Project funded by the U.S. Embassy – Amman, organized a workshop titled «Reducing Operational Costs and Enhancing Water Use Efficiency in the Hotel Sector», on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, with the participation of representatives from hotels, governmental bodies, and providers of specialized solutions and technologies.


 Al-Shawabkeh, the Member Services Department Manager at the Jordanian Hotels Association, during her opening speech, confirmed that sustainability represents a strategic opportunity to reduce operational costs and enhance the competitiveness of the hotel sector, especially in light of the water scarcity challenges facing the Kingdom, pointing out that the cooperation with the Water Conservation Project aims to empower hotel facilities to adopt practical and smart solutions that enhance resource use efficiency and achieve tangible operational savings, alongside enhancing the chances of obtaining the Green Key certification, reflecting the commitment of Jordan's hotels to global environmental standards and solidifying the Kingdom's position as a regional model in efficient and sustainable water resource management.


The workshop included a presentation on the goals and themes of the Water Conservation Project, in addition to discussing the main challenges associated with water management in hotel facilities and the opportunities available to enhance its efficient use, positively reflecting on the operational and environmental performance of the tourism sector.


Specialized sessions also discussed local and global trends in water efficiency in the tourism sector, showcased successful experiences of three and four-star hotels that had obtained the Green Key certification, and what they achieved in terms of operational savings and positive impacts on their environmental and operational performance, in addition to analyzing water consumption patterns, common points of waste, and technical performance indicators (KPIs) for measuring efficiency in the various facilities of hotel establishments.


The workshop concluded with interactive sessions that brought together hotel representatives and water-saving technology providers, during which practical solutions and modern technologies were discussed to enhance water use efficiency and reuse in hotel facilities, supporting the sector's shift towards more sustainable and efficient resource management practices.
