Khaberni - The Minor Felony Court issued a judicial ruling sentencing a pharmacy assistant working in one of the northern hospitals to three years in prison with temporary hard labor for the charge of exploiting public office to steal medications.
The investigations confirmed that the accused employee deliberately concealed government-subsidized medicines from consultants and needy patients and then sold them through deceitful methods to other citizens for personal financial gain.
A citizen's complaint, uncovered after repeated practices of the employee, led to the formation of a specialized internal committee that inventoried the warehouses and discovered a severe shortage in medicinal items and their distribution without prescriptions.
The investigations revealed that the financial deficit resulting from the theft operations amounted to 21,000 dinars, necessitating the transfer of the entire file to the public prosecutor of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Authority and the judiciary.
The judicial decision issued attributed the charge of employment investment felony to the accused according to Article 175 of the current Penal Code.
The court emphasized the need to recover the looted funds, with the ruling imposing a financial penalty on the convicted of up to 42,000 dinars, which is the estimated value of the medications sold, in addition to imprisoning the accused for 3 years.
The ruling confirmed that the accused violated paragraph 16 of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Law and the Economic Crimes Law, which intensified the penalty to ensure general deterrence and prevent the recurrence of such transgressions.
