Important Guidelines for Protecting Children on Artificial Intelligence Platforms

Khaberni - Kaspersky provided a set of guidelines to help parents improve the safety of children when using artificial intelligence tools, coinciding with the Global Internet Safety Day.

According to a press release focusing on Generation Alpha (2010–2025), Kaspersky pointed out that children are relying on tools like "ChatGPT" and "DeepSeek" to get faster answers than traditional searches through "Google," and they also use voice assistants like "Alexa" to play music without direct interaction with the device.

The company recommended that parents explain to children the nature of artificial intelligence tools as digital tools and not substitutes for human relationships, alerting that their answers may be misleading, biased, or incorrect.

It also called for training children to verify information from more than one source, in a way similar to what they do when preparing a school project.

The guidelines include a warning about blind trust in artificial intelligence responses, especially on sensitive topics such as health, psychological safety, and security concerns, in addition to emphasizing not to share personal data or documents with artificial intelligence systems.

The statement explained that many artificial intelligence platforms and smart devices include built-in security features, but they may be inactive or unclear to users.

Therefore, Kaspersky advised reviewing and customizing privacy settings and content filters to align with family values and the maturity level of the children, aiming to reduce exposure to inappropriate content and minimize the risks of privacy violations and potentially harmful interactions.

On the other hand, it pointed out that some services might not allow the adjustment of content filters or full control over children's digital activities. In such cases, it suggests using parental control tools like "Kaspersky Safe Kids," which it said enables hiding inappropriate content, blocking specific apps and websites, and managing the time children spend online through a time management feature.

Kaspersky emphasized the importance of verifying the reliability of apps before using them, especially for children, advising that apps be downloaded only from official stores and avoiding installing any applications from unknown sources.

Kaspersky’s guidelines also called for researching the app developer company, verifying it has an official website and a legal presence in the market. The recommendations also include teaching children to restrict permissions and access within apps, only granting access to data when necessary.

The statement discussed the role of ongoing monitoring as part of safe use, by trying to understand the questions or problems that a child turns to artificial intelligence to solve. Kaspersky proposes simple and direct questions such as: What did you ask artificial intelligence today? And was the answer correct? to encourage the child to share their digital experiences.
