AlOdayleh Occupation measures undermine the twostate solution

Khaberni  - Jordan's permanent representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Amjad Al-Odayleh, participated on Wednesday in the extraordinary session of the League Council, discussing ways to mobilize Arab and international actions to confront the recent decisions of the Israeli occupation government.

Al-Odayleh confirmed in his speech during the meeting that the illegitimate measures adopted by the Israeli government to impose non-legitimate Israeli sovereignty, solidify settlements, and enforce a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied West Bank constitute a flagrant breach of international law and undermine the two-state solution, and an assault on the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to establish their own independent and sovereign state on the borders of June 4, 1967 with its capital being East Jerusalem. He emphasized that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories.

The permanent representative of the Kingdom to the Arab League mentioned the meeting between His Majesty King Abdullah II and the President of the State of Palestine, President Mahmoud Abbas, in Amman this week, stressing the necessity to reinforce the Palestinian reference and cut off any Israeli attempts to undermine the Palestinian National Authority, which is the Palestinian partner and reference for the Palestinian people.

He highlighted the importance of the Arab movement in this matter being based on leveraging the international climate that rejects Israeli policies and turning it into a political and legal pressure tool to stop the ongoing Israeli escalation, especially since the Israeli measures constitute a clear violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, specifically resolution 2334 which condemns all Israeli actions aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status of the Palestinian lands occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, in addition to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice which confirmed the necessity to end the Israeli occupation and the illegitimacy of the annexation of the occupied Palestinian territories.

In the same context, the Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories at the General Secretariat of the Arab League, Ambassador Faid Mustafa, confirmed in his speech that the meeting is held at a pivotal moment in light of the dangerous decisions recently undertaken by the Israeli government.

He stated that the meeting represents a reaffirmation of the firm and steady stance of the Council of the Arab League at various levels towards Israeli settlements and their grave danger, noting that the decisions of the League Council, whether at the level of the summit, foreign ministers, or permanent representatives, have repeatedly and clearly confirmed that settlements in the Palestinian territories occupied including East Jerusalem, constitute a serious violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, and are the main obstacle in achieving just and comprehensive peace.

On his part, the representative of the State of Palestine to the Arab League, Ambassador Mahnad Al-Aklouk, pointed out that Palestine considers the Israeli decisions void and null, urging for the empowerment of the State of Palestine to exercise its sovereignty and full responsibilities over all its territories, with Arab and international support, based on the commitment to the Palestine Liberation Organization as the legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people.
