Khaberni - The House of Representatives passed 11 articles from the Gas Law project for the year 2025 during its legislative session, Wednesday, out of 32 articles in the project.
The Council of Ministers had approved the law project in its session on August 10, where the new "Gas Law" represents a modern legislative framework that regulates the activities of the gas and hydrogen derivatives sector in the Kingdom, and enhances the national energy infrastructure.
The law includes various types of gas, such as natural gas, biogas, biomethane, and hydrogen, reflecting legislative flexibility that accommodates the global shift towards clean energy.
The law project covers main gas activities, including import, transportation, distribution, storage, wholesale and retail, within an integrated system that allows shared or independent use of facilities, enabling the implementation of major economic and strategic projects, and encourages investments in the sector through a clear regulatory environment and streamlined licensing procedures covering all project stages.
The new law project is expected to stimulate the shift to natural gas, thanks to the presence of a regulating law and streamlined procedures that encourage investment in transport and distribution networks and storage, and the law sets clear mechanisms for calculating fees, granting licensees the freedom to sign investment and sales agreements within a transparent environment based on fairness and competitiveness.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, stated that the draft of the Gas Law was prepared a year ago, noting that natural gas represents a less costly fuel, which means increased reliance on natural gas, revealing that the distribution of gas in the governorates of Amman and Zarqa for use in transport and home consumption will begin soon.
