Video Leads to Israeli Soldiers Being Dismissed

Khaberni - The Israeli military announced today, Wednesday, that two soldiers have been dismissed from their combat duties following the circulation of a video showing them assaulting a Palestinian man detained in the West Bank last week.

Footage broadcast on Palestinian media last Friday showed the two soldiers beating and kicking the detained man near the village of Nabi Saleh near Ramallah, while the man appeared to be handcuffed during the incident.

The military forces announced on Wednesday that after an investigation conducted by unit commanders, "the soldiers involved in the incident have been removed from combat duties."

The Israeli military stated that military police had begun an investigation into the incident, with the results to be submitted to the Chief Military Advocate General’s office for appropriate legal actions, including possible charges.

The army affirmed that "the Israel Defense Forces strongly condemn any instances of violence and handle them with utmost seriousness."

Recently, there have been several incidents of abuse that were recorded and posted online, sometimes by the soldiers themselves, amid rising tensions in the West Bank between Palestinians and Israeli security forces and settlers.

Last October, a reserve soldier who appeared in a video repeatedly kicking a Palestinian man in the town of Dura near Hebron was dismissed from service, along with another soldier who stood by him.
