Khaberni - The Kuwaiti Court of Appeals upheld today the death sentence for 5 Iranian defendants after they were convicted of importing and smuggling a large quantity of drugs into the country for the purpose of trafficking, according to Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Qabas".
The Criminal Court had sentenced the five defendants to death after proving they smuggled about 175 kilograms of hashish and psychotropic substances from Iran to Kuwait by sea, using a cruiser owned by the first defendant, before the Coast Guard patrols managed to spot and arrest them upon their entry into territorial waters.
The investigation revealed that the defendants confessed to the accusations attributed to them and stated that they departed from Iran after loading the cruiser, which is 26 feet long, with various quantities of drugs, mentioning that they consumed doses of them before sailing to encourage themselves to carry out the smuggling operation.
