Khaberni - The House of Representatives continues, today, Wednesday, to discuss the provisions of the gas law project for the year 2025, after the approval of two articles out of 32 in a previous session.
The parliamentary energy committee approved the law project on January 20 as submitted by the government, with some modifications made to it.
The Council of Ministers approved, in a session on August 10 last year, the law project, where the new "gas law" constitutes a modern legislative framework regulating the activities of the gas sector and hydrogen derivatives in the kingdom, and enhances the national energy infrastructure.
The law includes various types of gas, such as natural gas, biogas, biomethane, and hydrogen, reflecting the legislative flexibility to accommodate the global shift towards clean energy.
The law project covers the main gas activities, including importation, transport, distribution, storage, wholesale and retail, within an integrated system that allows for either shared or proprietary use of facilities, and enables the implementation of major economic and strategic projects, encouraging investment in the sector through a clear regulatory environment and simplified licensing procedures that include all stages of projects.
The new law project is likely to stimulate the shift to natural gas, thanks to having a regulatory law and simplified procedures that encourage investment in transport, distribution, and storage networks, and the law project provides clear mechanisms for calculating compensations, and grants licensees the freedom to sign investment and sales agreements within a transparent environment based on fairness and competitiveness.
