When is stomach rumbling dangerous

Khaberni  - Dr. Alexey Golovenko points out that gases move continuously in the intestines, and the intestinal cavity changes continuously as a result of the alternating contraction and relaxation of its parts.

According to him, this process is called peristalsis, and it is accompanied by peristaltic sounds. These sounds may sometimes be faint, and quite clear in some instances, as happens when consuming food or drink that stimulates intestinal contractions, where the intestines sometimes try to eliminate the pathogenic agent, followed by diarrhea or vomiting after a period.

He indicates that stomach rumbling rarely requires medical examination.

He says: "We only fear one scenario - obstruction, when food and stool get stuck in the intestines due to a tumor or any other narrowing."

According to him, intestinal obstruction causes pain, vomiting, constipation, and noticeable bloating.

He says: "An obstruction can be detected in this case by standard X-rays, without the need for video capsules or complex CT imaging."

On her part, Dr. Irina Yakovleva, a gastroenterology specialist, indicates that periodic intestinal sounds are a natural process related to the passage of food and gases, but their continuous increase warrants attention. The most common cause is irritable bowel syndrome, where the digestive system overreacts even to normal food.

According to her, an imbalance of intestinal microbes may occur after taking antibiotics, or due to stress, infection, or irregular eating, because a microbial disorder leads to increased fermentation and gas formation.

Other reasons include intolerance to certain foods (lactose, fructose, gluten), where symptoms appear 15-40 minutes after eating. Additionally, gastritis and duodenitis often accompany heartburn, nausea, and a heavy feeling in the stomach. Another possible cause is pancreatic insufficiency, as enzyme deficiency leads to poor digestion and fermentation of food in the intestines, or chronic inflammatory bowel disease.

The doctor advises not to ignore persistent intestinal sounds, especially if accompanied by other concerning symptoms.
