Personal data for less than two dollars a new scandal shakes Turkey

Khaberni - A scandal involving the sale of Turkish street data in an incident similar to the sale of Syrian refugees' data in Turkey years ago has caused a stir on social media, where there have been increasing calls for the protection of personal data and raising awareness in society on how to handle it.

In detail of the incident that shook the Turkish street, Turkish entities sold personal data for a trivial amount, 50 Turkish Lira, which is less than two US dollars.

According to Turkish media, this network, described by the government as a "gang," deliberately provoked families who had previously lost children in security or criminal incidents.

Individuals from this network attempted to threaten families on social media after revealing various data about these families, according to a lengthy report published by the Ntv Turkish site.

This network managed to access everything from personal data starting from home addresses and health data to property records and family trees and the number of family members.

Turkish social media users have called on the Turkish authorities to act and put an end to such operations which Turks fall victim to due to lack of experience in using electronic applications.

Just the first name and last name is enough
Information technology expert Emre Ozkan commented on the work of this network: "If they know your first name and last name, they can access all other information through the control panel. Individuals changing their IP addresses and accessing these panels via VPN can reach everything from family members' phone numbers and addresses to blood type information. Most of this information is up-to-date."

These networks used various apps like TikTok, Telegram, and Instagram to promote the data they offered for sale on social networks, under phrases like "ask whom you want" when placing ads.
