AlMaaytah Sponsors the Opening of a Regional Workshop on Combating Transnational Crime

Khaberni  - Inaugurated today, Tuesday, in the capital Amman, the activities of a regional workshop titled "Cross-Border Cooperation and Combatting Transnational Crime", sponsored by the Director General of Public Security, Major General Dr. Obaidallah Al-Maaytah, and attended by the Deputy of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences for External Relations, Dr. Khaled Al-Harbish, and the Regional Director of the International Organization for Migration for the Middle East and North Africa, Osman Al-Bilbisi.

The workshop, organized by the Public Security Directorate, Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, and the International Organization for Migration, aims to enhance joint cooperation between the participating countries and to develop their security capabilities in a way that contributes to building specialized competencies in the field of border security and combating transnational crime, according to the best international standards.

In his opening speech, Major General Al-Maaytah emphasized that organized transnational crimes have become more complex and evolved today due to the exploitation of legal and technical loopholes, which imposes on countries the need to enhance joint cooperation, exchange information appropriately, and raise operational and intelligence readiness among them, especially with the rapid developments in the digital space and artificial intelligence applications.

The Director-General of Public Security pointed out that Jordan, under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, is keen on supporting international efforts aimed at combating crimes that threaten international security and peace, by updating security legislation, developing national strategies, and enhancing regional and international partnerships in the police and security fields.

Meanwhile, Dr. Khaled Al-Harbish explained that this workshop represents the beginning of a series of specialized initiatives in border management and reflects the depth of institutional cooperation with the Public Security Directorate and the International Organization for Migration, emphasizing the importance of migration governance and border security, which have direct implications for national security, development, and international relations.

For his part, Osman Al-Bilbisi praised the partnership between the organizing bodies for the workshop, especially in this phase that requires a concerted international effort, a high level of regional coordination, and constructive dialogue, confirming that its convening in Jordan reflects its status as a regional center for dialogue and coordination on security, mobility, and governance issues.

The workshop, which is attended by several officials and security experts from various regional and international entities, will continue for three days, including panel discussions and papers on practical and technical challenges facing law enforcement agencies, along with a review of the latest international experiences in border security, to come out with practical recommendations that can be implemented, contributing to enhancing border security, and supporting international stability through the development of coordination mechanisms among countries.
