Onions are healthy But these groups should avoid them

Khaberni - Dr. Olga Chistyak, a gastroenterologist at the Scandinavian Health Center in Moscow, warned that consuming onions can be dangerous for those with some diseases and health issues.
In an interview with the Russian agency Novosti, she said that people with high blood pressure, asthma, hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and heart rhythm disorders should avoid consuming onions, as it may increase blood pressure.

She added, "People with gastritis, esophageal reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, and kidney and heart diseases should also limit their consumption of onions, as it contains substances that increase stomach sensitivity and cause gases that affect the intestines and lead to abdominal bloating, which puts pressure on the diaphragm, heart, and lungs."

Despite these warnings for the mentioned groups, onions are considered one of the most beneficial vegetables for health. Many studies indicate that the flavonoids found in it improve cell sensitivity to insulin, which helps the body use glucose more efficiently and reduces the risk of diabetes.

Health experts also confirm that onions are essential for strengthening the immune system and improving iron absorption, and contribute to the production of collagen responsible for the beauty of the hair and the elasticity of blood vessels, cartilages, and tendons. It is also rich in quercetin, an antioxidant that strengthens capillaries, and it has been observed that its consumption helps prevent blood clot formation in those recovering from COVID-19.
