Khaberni - The American authorities recalled more than 6,000 bags of repackaged "M&M's" candies after discovering a labeling error that could endanger the lives of people allergic to certain ingredients.
The Food and Drug Administration revealed that Beacon Promotions did not include necessary allergy warnings on the packaging. The candies contain milk, soy, and peanuts, but these ingredients were not listed on the outer packaging, posing a severe risk to people with allergies, including life-threatening allergic reactions.
Affected products
The recall includes 1.3-ounce bags of "M&M's" Peanut and Classic candies, specifically designed for corporate events and not intended for retail sale. These were distributed across 20 U.S. states, including California, Texas, Florida, and New York.
To identify the recalled "M&M's" Peanut candy: look for the "Make Your Mark" label with the batch code M1823200 and the expiration date April 30, 2026.
The Classic "M&M's" can be identified by corporate promotional labels such as Subaru, Adobe, Xfinity, and Morgan Stanley, in addition to the specific batch codes and dates mentioned in the official recall notice.
The recall process began on January 26 and was classified as a Class II recall by the Food and Drug Administration on February 4, indicating that the product might cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, with a remote possibility of serious harm.
Consuming these candies could lead to a severe allergic reaction, including rash, swelling, breathing difficulties, or anaphylactic shock, which could be life-threatening within minutes. Individuals with any of these allergies are advised not to consume the candies and to dispose of them immediately.
Additional information on allergies:
Milk allergy: May lead to anaphylactic shock including rash, vomiting, wheezing, swelling, and severe decrease in blood pressure.
Peanut allergy: Even a slight exposure can cause a rapid and comprehensive reaction to the body (anaphylaxis), always requiring the carrying of a self-injectable epinephrine auto-injector.
Soy allergy: May cause skin rash, itching, digestive disturbances, and swelling, and in severe cases, anaphylactic shock.
