Khaberni - Health authorities in the Gaza Strip warn of a dangerous outbreak of meningitis among displaced people along the coastal strip west of the sector, amid an almost complete collapse of the healthcare system, and the registration of the first death of a girl just two days after her disease was diagnosed.
Pediatrician at Nasser Medical Complex, Darwish Abu Al-Khair, reported that the hospital is currently receiving nine confirmed cases of children under the age of thirteen, including one critical case suffering from bacterial meningitis, while the rest are cases of viral meningitis.
He explained that all infected individuals are undergoing treatment in special isolation rooms, with strict measures taken to prevent the spread of infection, due to the ease of disease transmission through respiratory droplets or human secretions.
He noted that all cases involve children living in displacement tents and suffering from severe malnutrition, which exacerbates the severity of the disease and reduces recovery chances, warning of complications that may include hearing loss, vision loss, paralysis, or death.
