Khaberni - The Bahrain Supreme Criminal Appeals Court has set a session on February 23 to issue a ruling on the appeal submitted by an Asian car mechanic, sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of importing and consuming drugs, in addition to being fined BD 10,000 and permanently deported from the country after serving his sentence.
A customs officer at Bahrain International Airport, while on duty, noticed the accused's bag during the transit of bags coming from an Asian country through the airport. He marked it with an ‘X’ for thorough inspection. When the accused received his bag and was asked if he wished to declare anything, he denied, but upon inspecting the bag, a substance suspected to be tobacco weighing 2 kilograms, and 29 capsules suspected to be psychotropic, in addition to 30 narcotic pills were found hidden among the clothes inside the bag.
Investigations by the Drug Control Department confirmed that the accused had imported the narcotics, was aware of their presence in his bag, that their importation into the Kingdom of Bahrain was prohibited, and that he intended them for trafficking, as he admitted to bringing them to his friends who lived with him for the purpose of selling them. The seizures contained 399 bags, each containing narcotics and hashish, 29 capsules, and 30 tablets, and it was also revealed from his confession that he had consumed narcotics and psychotropic substances.
The prosecution had charged the accused (24 years old) that within the year 2025, he imported and possessed narcotics, cannabis (hashish), morphine, and psychotropic substances, with the intent of trafficking and using them in circumstances not legally permitted.
