Khaberni - The Director General of the Department of Statistics, Haider Freihat, said on Monday that the department has amended the methodology of the 2026 General Population and Housing Census so that the self-enumeration system will be used for the first time in the statistical history of Jordan, allowing citizens to enter their data themselves directly through a specifically designed link, without the need for field visits by researchers.
Freihat added in statements to "Al-Mamlaka" TV, that the researchers who will visit the citizens' homes, will carry badges specific to the 2026 Census equipped with a QR Code, which can be scanned by the citizens to display all the researcher's data and verify their identity, noting that all citizens' data is protected under the General Statistics Law, and will not be disclosed for any reason whatsoever.
He explained that there is data to be collected from the citizens, and other data already available on the researcher’s tablet, drawn from administrative bodies, in order to verify and check their accuracy and consistency with administrative records, to ensure more accurate census results.
Previously, the Department of Statistics said that the population census has reached the third stage out of four stages, expecting this stage to be completed next June, and that Jordan's population is around 12 million people, with Jordanians making up about 70% of that figure.
Freihat mentioned that the third stage is the listing stage, during which researchers will visit the citizens and collect some data without needing to enter the homes, with the aim of gathering the necessary data for that stage and paving the way for the fourth and final stage of the census, which will involve visiting homes and entering them by the researchers.
