King Receives Palestinian President

Khaberni  - His Majesty King Abdullah II reaffirmed, during his reception of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman today, Monday, Jordan's condemnation of the illegitimate measures aimed at consolidating settlement and imposing Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank.

His Majesty emphasized, during the meeting held at Al Husseiniya Palace to discuss the overall developments in the Palestinian territories, the complete rejection of any decisions that violate the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian brothers and the establishment of their independent state based on the two-state solution.

His Majesty pointed out the necessity of maintaining bilateral coordination and with regional and international partners to press towards stopping the dangerous Israeli escalation, which is likely to inflame the conflict in the region.

Regarding the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, His Majesty reiterated the continuation of the Kingdom in playing its historical role in the care of these sanctuaries, emanating from the Hashemite custodianship over them.

Speaking about Gaza, His Majesty King Abdullah II emphasized the need to commit to implementing the second phase of the war termination agreement, and intensifying the entry of relief aid without restrictions to alleviate the disastrous humanitarian situation.

His Majesty also affirmed his support for the efforts of the Palestinian National Authority in reform, serving the interests of the brotherly Palestinian people.

In turn, President Abbas appreciated the continuous support provided by Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to the Palestinians, pointing out the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Attending the meeting were the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, the Director of the Office of His Majesty, Engineer Alaa Batayneh, and from the Palestinian side, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Ziad Abu Amro, the Presidential Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs Majdi Al-Khaldi, and the Palestinian Ambassador to Jordan Atallah Khairi.
